Remember… Malachi 3:13-4:6

Our relationship with God and each other releases or blocks revival

Places in the world
Man as doorkeeper to let God in (examples)

1. REMEMBER… what covenant is

Malachi is full of covenant language:
• the Book of Remembrance (Mal. 3:16)
“They will be mine," says the Lord (Mal. 3:17)
For you who fear (or revere) My Name (Mal. 4:2)
“Remember the Law of Moses…the statutes and ordinances" (Mal. 4:4)
Berith – binding Berith – binding
Apprenticeship (esp. medieval guilds).
Home micro-world, strife or covenant
…The Moses covenant Ten Commandments and more. Exodus 19:4-8 and Exodus 20:1-6. Covenant will not be reneged or terms changed

2. REMEMBER… what covenant isn’t

Salvation history. Prophets cried: “Come back to the covenant
Independence
Resentful.
Lack of mutuality
Not ‘what’ or ‘how much’
The promise. For those who fear God (Mal. 4:2) the sun of righteousness will rise… Fathers to children (Mal. 4:6) children to fathers – picture of how discipleship works.

3. REMEMBER – how the kingdom comes

…How it concludes – By avoiding: Mal. 3:13 and 4:1
“Your words have been arrogant (strong) against Me… the day is coming, all the arrogant and every evildoer will burn like chaff."
… 3:16 passages By regard for Mal. 3:16: “those who feared the Lord… the book of remembrance. Parallels with John 3:16. Names recorded in Book of Life Phil. 4:13 etc
Humility vs arrogance. Humility is how it works. Arrogance is how it stops.
• It takes humility to ask Jesus into your life
• It takes humility to go on living under the Lordship of Jesus.
• It takes humility to own this verse: Jeremiah 11:4: Listen to My voice, and do according to all which I command you; so you shall be My people, and I will be your God.
• It takes humility to say that we have need.
The danger. ‘Success’ Revival comes where churches repent of competition and are ‘for’ one another. Church leaders/members are for one another.
Allow or disallow
Usher in presence of God. Spend time with Him. Give ourselves in worship and prayer.
Knowing we are loved, able to love God, love others. People see Jesus. Transformation.

Challenge:

Jeremiah 11:4 (headlines Malachi’s message)
Getting to Mal. 3:16…those who feared the Lord… the Lord gave attention and heard…
